For many recent college grads, the month of July is the month of new beginnings. We are starting our first jobs, starting grad schools, and finally coming to terms with the fact that we are now officially adults and it won’t be long before Ms. Mae comes knocking. (God help us) It is important, that as we move into this new part of our lives, we have goals. So here are my very board, take it as you want to goals for this next phase of my life.
Jump! You’ve finished one of the main things in life. You’ve graduated from somewhere and now it’s time to take real risk. For me this means learning to say ‘Yes’ more. I’m talking Jim Carey in the movie “Yes man” type yes. We are so young. We are at the point in our lives where, for most people, we are the only ones depending on us. This is the time where we can just go. Where ever, we can just go. So do it! If you have an idea, turn it into reality! Put all of your energy into it. Now, don’t be stupid. Think things through, but don’t let the fear of failure be the reason you don’t purse your idea. Take that trip, talk to that girl, ask for that promotion; JUST DO IT.
Lately, I’ve been watching a lot of Casey Neiatat’s vlogs. He’s actually pretty awesome, like he lives life like I’m learning to. Anyway in one of his vlogs he talks about what is called the “The Tarzan Method.”
The only way the Tarzan method works is when you take risk and keep and open-mind. The same goes for relationships.
Like I said, we are young. Our twenties is the time we are suppose to focus on growing as an adult. When I say live selfishly, I don’t mean that you should become a selfish ass who doesn’t consider anyone else, but themselves. I mean you should focus on you. Do the things that make you happy and make decisions based on what you want to do, not what others say to do. We are finally at the age where are parents are backing off and realizing that we are not children anymore. From this moment on I want you to focus on what makes you happy and chase after that, no matter what. Live for you and no one else!
No matter your position in life, there is someone who wishes they were you. You didn’t get to where are today by yourself and now it’s time to return the favor. Once you get settled in, find a way to give back to the community. Giving back not only makes you feel good, but it ensures the next generation will be as successful if not more successful than us. There are many ways to get involved. Find what works best for you and do that. For me, I will either be applying to be a big brother or volunteer at the boys an girls club of America. It really doesn’t matter what you do, just do something to improve the community around you.
All in all just enjoy life. Write down your personal goals and look at them everyday. Your goals will help you keep going when times get tough. REMEMBER, goals without actions are just words. We are going to be great, just work on it.
I love you, God loves you
